Getting Started in Mermaid Awakening

A launch-week checklist for the Gold Coast, Rikki's, fishing, and your first mermaid swim.

Getting Started

Mermaid Awakening is a free Roblox mermaid roleplay set on a tropical Gold Coast. You build a life on land — beach, cafe, fish shop, lifeguard stand — then awaken a mermaid form and take that look underwater toward Mako Island. The loop is social, not a raid. Your first hour should be: look right, earn coins, learn the form swap, then explore. This page is that hour.

The experience released at the end of August 2026 and opened to all ages on 2 September 2026. Servers hold 20 players. The team warned that bugs and glitches would appear. If a button does nothing, rejoin before you assume the wiki is wrong.

What you are walking into

Official art and the live listing agree on the fantasy:

  • A Gold Coast beach with cabanas, umbrellas, hotels, and a lifeguard culture.
  • Rikki’s, a waterfront cafe with a ramp, flags, and a waitress / drink loop — the name is a deliberate H2O nod.
  • A Fresh Catch Fish Shop in the hills, which is why a Caught all fish badge exists.
  • Mako Island, ruins, moonlit coves, and “hidden places & secrets.”
  • Water, fire, and ice powers on top of a customizable mermaid tail.

If you came from Mermaid Isle, reset your expectations. This is closer to a coastal life sim with a mermaid morph than a tail-gacha grind.

Controls (PC, mobile, console)

Mermaid Awakening uses standard Roblox movement. There is no published custom key list from the developers yet, so treat this as the default map and confirm on your HUD after spawn.

The full bind table lives on the controls page. Power buttons will sit on a skill tray once you unlock mermaid abilities. Do not bind over the interact key — jobs at Rikki’s need that prompt. If you transform and the HUD hides the shop, surface; land jobs are designed for the human form shown in the lifeguard and cafe art.

Minute-by-minute first session

Minutes 0–5. Spawn, do not sprint into the ocean. Open avatar customization and lock a land outfit you can work in. The official lifeguard look is a valid job skin, not a joke. Save a second swim-friendly look for later. Details live in customization.

Minutes 5–10. Like the game and join the group. The 5,000-like coin code is a real, written promise. Favouriting is extra. Then walk the beach until you can point at three buildings: cabanas, Rikki’s, Fresh Catch.

Minutes 10–25. Take a job. Waitress work at Rikki’s takes orders from NPCs and other players — that is the loop TikTok showed during launch. Lifeguard is the other on-the-nose job from the hero art. Coins from a single shift buy more than standing AFK hoping for a code.

Minutes 25–40. Learn how to become a mermaid. Transform, swim a short loop, then change back before you take another shift. Mixing forms is how people miss prompts.

Minutes 40–60. Either start fishing at Fresh Catch or boat/swim toward Mako Island. Do not buy x2 Money until you have felt a job tick. Do not buy VIP until you want the tag and clothing, not because a stranger in chat said you have to.

What not to spend Robux on yet

  • x2 Money (300 Robux) — doubles jobs and activities, not Coin Codes, and cannot be bought with coins. Good later, not at minute five.
  • VIP (699 Robux) — tag, VIP clothing, colourful chat. Clothing can also be bought with in-game currency. Try coins first.
  • Pearl Luxury Outfit (300 Robux) — also listed as purchasable with in-game currency. Farm it unless you are collecting.

The game pass tier list ranks these with launch context.

Social rules that save the session

This is a 20-player dress-up RP. Voice is not supported on the listing. Chat tags from VIP are cosmetic. If you want a quieter server, hop; if you want roleplay, Rikki’s and the beach cabanas are the staged sets. Casting and community contests have been run through Discord, not through a hidden NPC.

If something is broken

Rejoin. Try a new server. Check launch notes. Missing fish, a dry transform, or a dead job NPC is a known launch class of bug, not a secret. Scripts will not “fix” that and can cost the account — read script safety if you were about to look for a farm GUI.

When the hour is done you should have: a land outfit, some coins, a mermaid form you can toggle, and a mental map of beach, Rikki’s, Fish Shop, and the way out to Mako. Everything else is extra and has its own guide.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Is Mermaid Awakening free to play?

Yes. The Roblox experience is free. Game passes are optional. Several cosmetics can be bought with coins instead of Robux.

Should I become a mermaid immediately?

Learn the toggle early, but work land jobs in human form so interaction prompts stay visible. Then swim.

What is Rikki's?

A Gold Coast cafe in official screenshots, named as an H2O nod. It is a job and roleplay set, not a separate game.

How many players are on a server?

Maximum 20. If prompts fail, switch servers before assuming a quest is bugged.
